This is a picture of the PacGrove team entering the Monterey Bay at last years Triathlon (can you see the kelp in the distance?).....thank God I have more than three months to get ready for that!
Today we met as a team to swim together at PSU. Julie, our swim coach, spent a bunch of time teaching us proper body positioning in the water...."You want to look and feel like Torpedos in the water, not like Barges". Have you ever tried to float on top of the water only to find that within 5 seconds your feet are heading for the bottom of the pool, closely followed by your legs and entire torso? Proper body positioning in the water corrects this sinking problem and reduces a lot of drag in the water that can tire you out when you swim. We are also learning how to glide after every stroke (imagine ice skating or cross country skiing), and to exhale completely in the water between breaths. And I thought I already knew how to swim!
